Congress party accuses Modi of usurping India's constitutional right to select judges

New Delhi, July 3 (ANI): Following the Gopal Subramanium controversy, Congress party accused the Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party of breaching constitutional norms by usurping the right to select or reject the judges of the apex court. Congress Spokesperson, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, said the government action against Subramanium smacks of pettiness. In a letter sent to the Chief Justice of India, Subramaniam had withdrawn his nomination for the candidature of apex court. Politicians back CJI's remark over appointment of judges, BJP admits mistake

New Delhi, July 2 (ANI): Politicians on Wednesday backed the remark of Chief Justice of India RM Lodha over the removal of former Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium's name for the post of a Supreme Court judge, by the Modi government. Lodha on Tuesday had expressed his displeasure over the former SG's name being dropped from being considered for the post of a Supreme Court judge.
