Silverspot butterfly: A new breeding programme to help fight extinction

Oregon Zoo’s butterfly conservation laboratory has released a video showing how it is fighting the extinction of the silverspot butterfly by assisting the endangered species in reproduction. The lab brings in wild butterflies, caught with the assistance of the US Fish and Wildlife Service and US Forest Service, and creates favourable living conditions for the butterflies to lay eggs. Silverspot populations have declined due to habitat loss but the zoo releases about 2,000 butterflies each year. Sep 9, 2016
