India, Maldives agree to boost cooperation in maritime security, vow to foster relations

New Delhi, Jan 2 (ANI): India and Maldives on Thursday agreed on a roadmap to boost cooperation in maritime security along the Indian Ocean, following a delegation-level meet between visiting President, Yameen Abdul Gayoom and Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, in New Delhi. President Gayoom is on a four-day trip to India, which ends on January 04. Addressing mediapersons, Gayoom said that the countries in the Indian Ocean region must resolve issues concerning the maritime security. Gayoom said that he and his council of ministers were committed to boost bilateral ties with India and improve relations, keeping aside the past disputes. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, said that India has agreed to provide a stand-by credit facility of 25 billion US dollars to Maldives for importing products from New Delhi. Jan 2, 2014
