India needs to develop strong domestic base in telecommunications, electronics: PM

New Delhi, Dec 5 (ANI): Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday emphasized on the need to develop strong domestic manufacturing base in electronics and telecommunications with an aim to avoid difficulties in financing huge imports. Singh, while inaugurating the 8th edition of 'India Telecom 2013', said that telecom sector has contributed significantly to country's economic growth and has created valuable employment opportunities. During the conference, Singh also said that telecommunications has the potential to reduce socio-economic disparities. CPI on A Raja and Sajjan Kumar seeking stay on trials citing Gauhati HC order on CBI

New Delhi, Nov 09 (ANI): Citing Gauhati HC order on CBI, former Telecom Minister A Raja has pushed for a stay on the proceedings of the 2G scam case in a Delhi court. Congress leader Sajjan Kumar too wants the court to declare as "illegal" the probe and charge sheets filed by the CBI in a 1984 anti Sikh riots case. Reacting over this, CPI leader D Raja said that if CBI was not there another investigative agency would have done the probe so there was no question of dismissing the cases against them. Meanwhile, the Central Government will move Supreme Court on Saturday against the Gauhati High Court order holding as unconstitutional the setting up of Central Bureau Investigation (CBI).
