Mumbai, Sep 09 (ANI): Congress party in Maharashtra, on Tuesday extended help to victims in flood-ravaged Jammu and Kashmir and dispatched relief materials. Indian-administered Kashmir is experiencing worst flooding in 60 years, killing at least 175 and inundating homes, military bases and hospitals in region's main city Srinagar as the Jhelum river overflowed its banks. Prime Minister Narendra Modi termed it as a national disaster and announced 1000 crore rupees in disaster relief payments, as well as compensation to victims and their relatives. On Tuesday, the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee dispatched rubber boats to help rescue operations in the valley. Jammu And Kashmir/New Delhi, Sep 08 (ANI): Indian army, air force and personnel of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rescued more than 5000 people from flood-hit areas in Jammu and Kashmir and set up relief camps on Monday. The death toll from serious flooding in Kashmir climbed to 175 with homes, military bases and hospitals inundated in the region's main city Srinagar as the Jhelum river overflowed its banks. Prime Minister Narendra Modi termed floods a national level disaster and announced 11 billion rupees in disaster relief payments, as well as compensation to victims and their relatives. Singh further said that additional 62 boats were deployed as 108 were already pressed into service in the state. Srinagar, Sep 07 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday took aerial survey of the flood situation in Jammu and Kashmir and released Rs. 1000 crores of relief assistance to the state government. Modi said that the disaster is not alone of the state but of the whole nation. He said that such situation has not occurred in the JandK since past 50 years and that the central government is assisting the state in all aspects possible. The prime minister also announced compensation worth 2 lakh to families of deceased and 50,000 to injured. Abdullah said that situation is getting better in Jammu and water level has started to fall down. He said that the government is focusing upon relief work followed by rehabilitation of the rescued people. He then said that situation is worsening in areas of Kashmir where water level has risen up to the level of first floors. He said that Central Government has helped the State with boats for recue and officers have been deployed to assess the situation and focus on the medical facilities is being laid. Gurdaspur, Sep 06 (ANI): Eight members of a family died due to roof collapse in Dhallan village of Gurdaspur district in Punjab on Saturday. One of the family members has been seriously injured and shifted to a hospital in Amritsar. According to the villagers the family members were geared up for wedding ceremony of their daughter, which was supposed take place just after two days in the house. Rajouri/ Srinagar/ Kathua/ Sopore, Sep 06 (ANI): Nearly 100 people were killed due to floods in Kashmir, said state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah as all the rivers have been flowing above the danger mark due to incessant rains. Authorities declared a disaster alert in the Himalayan region after two days of heavy rain that hit Kashmir valley, causing the worst flooding in two decades. The police and army have begun rescue operations as floods, triggered by heavy rains, washed away bridges and houses and marooned people. Abdullah said the major challenge was to rehabilitate flood hit victims. Home Minister Rajnath Singh held a meeting in New Delhi to review the flood situation and has dispatched members of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to assist the state government. Dhaka, Sep 3 (ANI): A team of Indian delegates led by Home Secretary, Anil Goswami, headed to Dhaka to attend the 15th Bangladesh-India Home Secretary-level talks on cross-border crimes and border management. Senior Secretary of Home Ministry, Mozammel Haque Khan, led the Bangladesh delegation. The two countries are expected to discuss issues on border crimes, border management, land boundary agreement, counter-terror initiatives and reopening of immigration points, besides reviewing progress and implementation of existing protocols and agreements. A Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral co-operation for prevention of human trafficking and rescue and rehabilitation of victims is most likely to be signed. RS Pura, Aug 30 (ANI): Villagers in RS Pura district of Jammu and Kashmir lamented the damage to crop amid continuous ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops along the international border. The incessant firing has led to damage to crop in the fields close to the border. Villagers at Abdullian, the last village on the Indian side, said that they were unable to tend to the crops. Bullet marks on buildings have restricted people to their homes. Children are unable to attend regular school as well.
