Rising river water levels causes Myanmar pagoda to collapse

Video footage captured the moment a Buddhist pagoda in Pakokku Township of central Magway Region in Myanmar collapsed and fell into the Ayeyarwaddy River on July 20. Video shows Myanmar pagoda collapse after heavy rainfall

A video shows the collapse of a Buddhist pagoda in Myanmar. Visitors gasped as they saw the structure slide into the Ayeyarwaddy River. The Thiri Yadana Pyilone Chantha Pagoda was destroyed around 4:30pm. According to officials, continuous heavy rain caused the river to rise. The water may then have weakened the base of the pagoda.
