New Delhi, Dec 11 (ANI): The Cabinet has approved the official amendments to the Insurance Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2008 and to its introduction in the Rajya Sabha. A decision in this regard was taken by it at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi yesterday. The bill is aimed at removing archaic and redundant provisions in the relevant legislations and to enable the insurance sector to work for the betterment of the insured. Dec 11, 2014

Politicos on government removing section 309 from IPC

New Delhi, Dec 10 (ANI): The Home Ministry on Wednesday informed Parliament that the government has decided to delete section 309 of the Indian Penal Code which criminalises attempt to suicide. The Centre also said that 18 states and four union territories have supported deleting Sec 309. The move was recommended by the Law Commission along with amendment of certain other sections of the CrPC and IPC in consultation with all stake holders. Many politicos backed the decision. New Delhi, Dec 09 (ANI): Congress President Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra may soon lose 'no-frisk' privileges at airports reportedly and will have to stand in long queues and undergo security checks. BJP leader GVL Narasimha Rao said that Vadra being a private sector representative should not have been given this privilege by the previous government and now the government should take care that no person violates the Constitutional procedure. Student union protests government's decision to swap territory with Bangladesh

Jorhat, Dec 2 (ANI): The All Assam Student Union (AASU) on Tuesday protested the Indian government's decision to swap territory with Bangladesh in northeast state of Assam. India has inched closer to settling a long-simmering border dispute with Bangladesh, possibly signaling a softer line from Prime Minister Narendra Modi than when he was in the opposition. A parliamentary committee has urged the government to table a constitutional amendment that would pave the way for a land swap deal that Bangladesh and India have been negotiating for years. TMC now uses earthen pots to protest against amendment of MGNREGA outside Parliament

New Delhi, Nov 28 (ANI): Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs on Friday moved on from black umbrellas and shawls to demonstrating outside the parliament with earthen pots to protest outside against government's decision to amend the MGNREGA. Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) has brought work to millions of impoverished villagers. The party demanded that instead of amending the Act, the Centre should instead raise the wages paid under the popular scheme that guarantees a minimum 100 days of employment in a year to those living below poverty line in rural areas. Meanwhile, in an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, 28 prominent economists said they were alarmed to hear of moves to change the NREGA, which provides jobs for 50 million households. Winter Session of Parliament to begin from Nov 24

New Delhi, Nov 22 (ANI): The Winter Session of Parliament begins from November 24 and ends on December 23. It will consist of 22 sittings. There are 67 bills currently pending before the Parliament. Of these, nine bills were introduced in the previous Session of Parliament, while 40 of these were introduced in the 15th Lok Sabha, which was the regime of the UPA II Government. 18 other bills are pending from the earlier Lok Sabhas. The government has promulgated two ordinances in the last few months. These were the Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Ordinance, 2014 and the Textile Undertakings (Nationalisation) Laws (Amendment and Validation) Ordinance, 2014. Bills to replace both these ordinances will have to be brought in this Session of Parliament to ensure that they do not lapse. Nov 22, 2014
