Manipuris want bollywood biopic on boxer Mary Kom to be released in the state

Manipur, July 30 (ANI): Theatres in Manipur have not screened any Hindi film since the year 2000, following the imposition of a ban by the outlawed Revolutionary People's Front (RPF). Because of this ban, cinema houses in the state may not screen a biopic on boxer M.C. Mary Kom, which is set be released in theaters across the country on September 5. The film starring Priyanka Chopra traces Mary's life from her humble roots to her achieving several world titles. Produced by well known Bollywood director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the film is directed by Omung Kumar. Film enthusiasts in Manipur want the film to be screened in the state. Mumbai, July 24 (ANI): Bollywood diva Priyanka Chopra launched the trailer of her upcoming biopic drama film _Mary Kom_ on Wednesday along with director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and producer Omung Kumar in India_s showbiz capital, Mumbai. Priyanka, who will be seen playing the role of boxer Mary Kom in the film, came up on the stage donning a boxing robe. Calling it the hardest film of her career, she said she drew inspiration from Olympic boxing champion Kom herself. Imphal, July 19 (ANI): The residents of Manipur demanded the screening of woman boxer, Mary Kom's biopic in her home state. The biopic of MC Mary Kom, five-time women's world boxing champion and Olympic bronze medalist, won't be screened due to a ban on Bollywood films in the state. Bollywood films were banned in the state over a decade ago by separatist organizations that felt the movies undermined Manipur's culture.
