Srinagar, Oct 23 (ANI): Workers and supporters of the BJP took to streets in Srinagar on Thursday to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kashmir as he will be celebrating Diwali with flood-hit victims of the region. To welcome him, party workers celebrated in Srinagar's streets, carrying banners and chanting his name. They claimed that the BJP was whole-heartedly working in rehabilitation and relief measures in the state and hoped that the central government would provide everything that would help the state to stand on its feet again. Mentally-ill women celebrate Diwali with gaiety in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Oct 22 (ANI): Home for mentally-ill women organised a programme on the eve of Hindu festival of lights, Diwali, in Odisha. The home, 'Mission Ashra', or Mission Shelter, organized a cultural programme for the inmates in Bhubaneswar city, who have been abandoned by their families as they are mentally-ill. Women danced and burst crackers to celebrate the festival. The home houses almost 200 mentally-ill destitute women and works for their treatment and rehabilitation. It has been rescuing helpless women from streets and other places across the 15 districts in the country. Diwali is celebrated with great fervour and gaiety all over India as it marks the return of Hindu god Lord Rama to Ayodhya in northern India after he defeated Ravana, the powerful demon king of Lanka. Faridabad, Oct 22 (ANI): At least five people were injured when massive fire broke out in a crackers market, gutting more than 150 shops in Faridabad. At least 10 vehicles were burnt in the inferno. Kashmir flood victims urge government to start rehabilitation work

Rajouri, Oct 20 (ANI): Flood victims in Jammu and Kashmir urged the Central government to start rehabilitation work in the devastated valley on a war footing. Residents had pinned hopes on Modi government for help in bringing the flood ravaged state of Jammu and Kashmir back on track. A legislator of Rajouri region, Choudhary Zulakar Ali, appealed to the Central government to look into the matter seriously. Both Indian and Pakistani sides of the state have seen extensive flooding last month with Srinagar particularly hard hit. Hundreds of people have been killed and tens of thousands are homeless. A flood victim, Abdul Rasheed, also urged the government to rehabilitate the displaced people in the region. Many complain that the government has left them to their fate. Srinagar, Oct 18 (ANI): Protesters in Srinagar took to streets on Saturday demanding that the state assembly elections be postponed and first priority be given to the people who have lost their homes and property in the recent floods. The devastation due to floods has also put the state assembly in a dilemma about holding the assembly elections scheduled to take place in December this year. Officials of the Election Commission of India, including the Chief Commissioner, VS Sampath and two commissioners, HS Brahma and Naseem Zaidi, are in the state on a two-day visit to survey the flood-ravaged state and review whether polls can be conducted as scheduled. They are likely to reach a decision later in the day. People of Kashmir, who have lost their livelihoods, however, feel that the government is deviating from the main agenda of rehabilitation.
