Capuchin monkeys create tools like hominins, a new study has shown

A new study has shown that wild-bearded capuchins in Brazil smash rocks which produces flakes with he same characteristics as those specifically made by hominins throughout history. This finding could now make it more difficult to distinguish between man-made tools and flakes created unintentionally. The scientists observed and filmed the monkeys in their natural habitat, the Serra da Capivara National Park in Brazil. After the animals left, they collected fragmented stones which had been used just before. Furthermore, they conducted surface surveys and archaeological sites in the same area. Oct 19, 2016

ExoMars mission to try and discover life on Mars to land on 19 October

The first mission of the ExoMars programme, scheduled to arrive at Mars on Wednesday (19 October), consists of a Trace Gas Orbiter plus an Entry, descent and landing Demonstrator Module, known as Schiaparelli. The main objectives of this mission are to search for evidence of methane and other trace atmospheric gases that could be signatures of active biological or geological processes and to test key technologies in preparation for ESAs contribution to subsequent missions to Mars.
