Ousted from JD (U), Manjhi forms new party 'Hindustan Awaam Morcha'

New Delhi, March 01 (ANI): Ousted Janata Dal (United) leader and former Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi floated a new party, the 'Hindustan Awaam Morcha'. According to reports, the HAM has been formed to counter the JD (U) ahead of Bihar assembly polls to be held later this year. Manjhi's supporters are said to be predominantly Mahadalits and other backward castes. Last week, the 70-year-old Manjhi had resigned from the top post in Bihar ahead of a crucial trust vote in the state assembly. While tendering his resignation to Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi, he also recommended dissolution of the assembly, a suggestion that was not taken into consideration. Mar 1, 2015

Patna, Feb 22 (ANI): Senior Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Bihar on Sunday evening. This will be his fourth stint as the Chief Minister. He was administered the oath of office and secrecy at the Raj Bhawan in Patna by Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi attended the ceremony. The ceremony was also attended by Kumar's predecessor, Jitan Ram Manjhi, who had stepped down on Friday after a lengthy battle to hang on to the chief minister's post. Reports suggest that along with Nitish, 10 ministers will also be take oath as cabinet ministers. JD (U) leaders Sanjay Singh and Basistha Narayan Singh said that the decision on the cabinet will be taken by Nitish and the party will abide by his decision. Mamata, Akhilesh to attend Nitish Kumar's oath taking ceremony today

Patna, Feb 22 (ANI): A host of political leaders including West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav are scheduled to attend senior JD (U) leader Nitish Kumar's swearing-in ceremony on Sunday. Nitish will be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Bihar at the Raj Bhawan. He will be administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi. Nitish had on Friday met the Governor and staked his claim to form the next government in Bihar following the resignation of Jitan Ram Manjhi from the top post ahead of the crucial trust vote in the state assembly. He had also apologised to the people of Bihar for his 'emotional decision' to step down. Nitish had stepped down as the state Chief Minister after his party's dismal show in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
