Ousted from JD (U), Manjhi forms new party 'Hindustan Awaam Morcha'

New Delhi, March 01 (ANI): Ousted Janata Dal (United) leader and former Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi floated a new party, the 'Hindustan Awaam Morcha'. According to reports, the HAM has been formed to counter the JD (U) ahead of Bihar assembly polls to be held later this year. Manjhi's supporters are said to be predominantly Mahadalits and other backward castes. Last week, the 70-year-old Manjhi had resigned from the top post in Bihar ahead of a crucial trust vote in the state assembly. While tendering his resignation to Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi, he also recommended dissolution of the assembly, a suggestion that was not taken into consideration. Mar 1, 2015

Nitish Kumar takes oath as Chief Minister of Bihar

Patna, Feb 22 (ANI): Senior Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Bihar on Sunday evening. This will be his fourth stint as the Chief Minister. He was administered the oath of office and secrecy at the Raj Bhawan in Patna by Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi attended the ceremony. The ceremony was also attended by Kumar's predecessor, Jitan Ram Manjhi, who had stepped down on Friday after a lengthy battle to hang on to the chief minister's post.
