People in Gilgit Baltistan demand their rights

Skardu, July 07: Such protests are widespread on the streets of Gilgit Baltistan. They have been fighting for their basic rights - education, healthcare, food and employment. In Skardu, thousands of people took part in demonstrations for several days to oppose the Pakistan Government’s decision to withdraw the wheat subsidy. The protesters, under the banner of the Awami Action Committee, a constituent of 22 different political, religious and nationalist parties, also demanded an end to colonial rule. Nationalist leader Manzoor Parwana said that Gilgit Baltistan is a disputed area and Pakistan will never succeed in making it a part of its territory. Gilgit Baltistan was annexed from the erstwhile princely state of Jammu and Kashmir and is strategically located between Pakistan, India, China and Afghanistan.

Congress party protesters walked out of the state assembly in Bhopal and demanded resignation of Madhya Pradesh chief minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, over his alleged involvement in the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam. Congress leader, Ramnivas Rawat, said central police probe is the need of the hour to ensure justice to the students. Vyapam scam, also known as Employment scam, relates to admissions in medical and engineering colleges during the period 2008 to 2010 in which many government employees are under the scanner for getting selected through unfair means.

Festival on aromatic plants of Kashmir to create awareness of its potential in income generation

Srinagar, June 30 (ANI): A six- day festival meant to highlight the potential of indigenous aromatic and medicinal plants of the scenic state in income generation took place in Srinagar city of Kashmir. The festival held in the premises of the Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine was named the 'Kashmir Lavender Festival', which brought together farmers, traders and industrialists in the business of aromatic products made out of plants like lavender, rose and rosemary. Director of the Institute, Dr Vishwakarma, said that the aim of the festival was to generate awareness on the market value of these plants that exist nowhere else in the country and the employment opportunities that exist in this business.
