Five children killed, more than 20 injured as school van collapses with train in UP

Mau, Dec 04 (ANI): Five children were killed and more than 20 are reported to be injured after a school van collapsed with a passenger train in Mau district of Uttar Pradesh. The accident took place at an unmanned railway crossing on Thursday morning. The injured children were immediately rushed to the nearest hospital and are being treated. Survivors recall Bhopal gas tragedy on 30th anniversary, demand compensation

Bhopal, Dec 03 (ANI): Survivors of Bhopal gas tragedy, world's worst industrial disaster which happened three decades ago, on Wednesday (December 03), recalled the night when cyanide gas in air killed thousands. In the early hours of December 03, 1984, around 40 metric tonnes of toxic methyl isocyanate gas accidentally leaked from a pesticide factory owned by US multinational Union Carbide Corp. and was carried by the wind into the surrounding slums. The government recorded 5,295 deaths. Activists estimate 25,000 people have died from illnesses in the years since. Many more, they said, are dealing with cancer, blindness, respiratory difficulties and immune and neurological disorders, but with no support. Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan along with other government officials organized special prayers for the victims and observed a moment of silence as a tribute to the victims. Home Minister pays homage to soldiers killed in Maoist attack

Raipur, Dec 3 (ANI): Home Minister, Rajnath Singh paid homage to 14 paramilitary personnel of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) killed in the deadly Maoists attack and announced compensation for the bereaved families. Maoist guerrillas ambushed a paramilitary patrol in Chhattisgarh on December 01 in the biggest rebel attack this year. The attack took place in remote Sukma district, in the jungle of Chhattisgarh, where members of the CRPF had been sent to flush the rebels out of their base. Singh said that though the loss caused by this incident was irreparable but the injured and the families of the victims will be given compensation by the government. Two women Maoists surrender in red corridor of Jharkhand

Ranchi, Dec 02 (ANI): Two women Maoists surrendered before the police in Ranchi city of Jharkhand. The duo was serving as the armed commanders and took part in several fierce battles against police. Speaking to mediapersons, Inspector General of Police (IG) (Ranchi zone) MS Bhatia said the two will be compensated as per the Maoist surrender and rehabilitation policy. Meanwhile, the 19-year-old Maoist, Pramilla who had taken up arms seven years ago in her school going days, urged other Maoists also to surrender. The rebels have operated for decades across a wide swath of central and eastern India, and grew in strength during recent times in areas where poor, tribal villagers came into conflict with mining companies seeking resources for industrialisation.
