At least 28 people killed in Assam road accident

Barpeta, Oct 03 (ANI): At least 28 people were killed and nine others injured in a road accident in Assam's Barpeta district on Thursday. According to reports, the mishap took place when two mini buses collided on National Highway (NH)-38 under the Sarbhog police station. Most of the victims were brick kiln labourers and their families. The injured have been admitted to the nearby hospitals. The minivans had been carrying workers, some with their children, to a local brick kiln. The truck was traveling to the neighboring state of West Bengal. The injured were admitted to Barpeta Medical College Hospital and Bongaigaon Civil Hospital. Oct 3, 2013

Insurgents continue to target civilians in Manipur

Manipur, Sep 29 (ANI): On September 13, a bomb exploded inside a temporary workers' shed at Nagamapal killing at least 9 people. Around 12 others were seriously injured. The workers hailing from Assam were resting after dinner when the bomb went off, killing 5 of them on the spot. The security forces rushed to the blast site and took the injured to RIMS. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack yet. In another incident on the same day, an IED exploded near the Khurai Chairenthongkhong waiting shed, injuring an Assam Rifles personnel and an auto rickshaw driver. New Delhi, Sep 29 (ANI): The second edition of the "United Art Fair" was held at Pragati Maidan in Delhi. Around 300 artists from across the country participated in the four-day long fair, and 2000 artworks including sculptures, sketches and paintings were displayed at the event. It is one of Asia's largest Art fair. It was organized by the Mooz Entertainment and UAPL. The event was inaugurated by Lok Sabha Speaker, Meira Kumar. A young artist, Sandeep Jigdung from Assam, showcased his work at the fair, which deals with the Northeast's natural beauty.
