Aurangabad, May 2 (ANI): The Tiger pair named 'Samrudhi and Siddharth' at the Siddharth Garden and Zoo of Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) in India's western Maharashtra province has given birth to three cubs recently, who made their first public appearance. The director at the zoo, B.S. Naikwade said the three cubs, two female and one male, were born eight weeks ago to tigress Samrudhi. The three cubs were kept in a safe place due to critical period at initial stages of their birth. The newly born cubs are the fourth generation of tigers in this zoo. Twelve years ago a pair named 'Tara and Jahangir' brought to Aurangabad district from a zoo in northern state Punjab gave birth to the pair of 'Dipti and Guddu' and the same pair had given birth to 'Samrudi and Siddharth'. Meanwhile, the zoo authorities have sent one pair of tigers each to a zoo in central city of Indore and Borivali Zoo in western Mumbai city. India holds over half of world's tiger population. According to a 2011 census report, tiger population was estimated to be around 1,700. But media reports say the Indian tiger faces threat of extinction due to various reasons including hunting, poaching and lack of genetic diversity. May 2, 2014

Mumbai, May 2 (ANI): As a lead up to International Dance day, Bollywood choreographer, Sandip Soparkarr, organised a Dance Week and invited all dance lovers and enthusiasts to show some moves and grooves, in India's entertainment capital, Mumbai. The week- long celebrations prior to International Dance Day celebrated on April 29 every year culminated with some special performances by Bollywood celebs. The organiser of the event, Bollywood choreographer, Sandip Soparrkar, said that the event was the first of its kind in the country. Each day was dedicated to one form of dance; there were shows, competitions, interactive sessions and performances. From folk dance to classical dances like Bharatnatyam, Kathak, Odissi and the Classic Russian Ballet, Salsa, Cha Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Contemporary, Hip-Hop, Jazz and Funk dances, one can celebrate everything. Veteran Bollywood choreographer, Saroj Khan, who inaugurated the event said that such events give a boost to art forms like dance and she was happy to be a part of it. UN goes Bollywood style for its 'Free and Equal' campaign in India

Mumbai, May 1 (ANI): The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) launched its first ever Bollywood-style music video in Mumbai to promote its Free and Equal campaign for LGBT rights in India. The two-and-a-half minute video, called "The Welcome", stars actress and former Miss India Celina Jaitly who was last year nominated by the High Commissioner as a "UN equality champion" in recognition of her support for LGBT equality. Celina has made her musical debut in the video, singing a new version of the 1979 Bollywood classic, Uthe Sab Ke Kadam. The event even saw the presence of renowned Indian actor Imran Khan, transgender rights activist Laxmi Tripathi and UN representatives.The Free and Equal campaign aims to raise awareness of homophobic and transphobic violence and discrimination, and encourage greater respect for the rights of LGBT people. Actor Jitendra receives Dadasaheb Phalke award for his contribution to cinema

Mumbai, May 1 (ANI): Veteran Bollywood actor Jitendra received the highest honour of Indian cinema, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, for his exemplary contribution to the film industry. The 72-year-old Jitendra has had a career spanning three decades starting from 1960s to 1990s. The Governor of Maharashtra, K. Sankaranarayanan in the presence of filmmaker Rakesh Roshan and various other dignitaries honored him. Soon after receiving the honour, Jitendra expressed his gratitude to all the people who shaped his career. Actor Farhan Akhtar was also presented the Best Actor male award for essaying the role of athlete Milkha Singh in the movie "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag".
