Kathmandu, Nov 26 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the SAARC summit in Nepal's capital Kathmandu on wednesday. Modi highlighted relations between India and other SAARC nations. He said that India and Bangladesh have deepened relations through rail, road and air and similarly with other countries like Maldives, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal. Modi further said that SAARC nations should help each other in fields of health and education. Festivals in the Northeast promote unity and brotherhood

Manipur, Nov 23 (ANI): The vibrant folk dances performed by these tribal reflects their joy and happiness. The Kuki, Chin and Mizo tribes came together at the Manipur Rifles Ground to celebrate 'Chavang-Kut', the autumn post harvest festival. The thanksgiving festival shows gratitude to the almighty for a bountiful harvest with an offering of songs and dances. Audiences were enthralled by various folk and warrior dances. The main attraction was the Miss Kut 2014 beauty pageant contest. Participants from different communities, dressed in their best ethnic attires, walked the ramp. Lamneimoi Chongloi, won the tiara of Miss Kut 2014. In Shillong, 5 day-long "Nongkrem Dance" a post harvest festival of the Khasi tribe was recently celebrated at the Iing Sad the royal palace of High Priestess of the state of Khyrim. New Delhi, Nov 17 (ANI): The Congress party on Monday commenced a two day long international conference to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of country's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru amid much fanfare. While speaking at the event, party President Sonia Gandhi said that Nehru was a leader who gave all his life working for the nation and for the unity and prosperity of the nation. Gandhi said that Nehru always believed that secularism was the main crux of Indian Constitution and that he was always ready to fight against power that would pick up caste based issues in the nation. She also said that the former PM believed that secularism was not just an idea but a necessity for a diverse nation like India. The congress president also acknowledged Nehru's work in putting the path of modernization, industrialization and social reforms. The Congress party has barred the NDA leaders from the event and the invitation was sent to all non-BJP parties. TMC chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa and JD (U) leader Nitish Kumar, RJD led by Lalu Prasad Yadav, RLD, JD(S) and leaders of the Samajwadi Party have been invited to the conference. PM Modi unveils Mahatma Gandhi statue in Brisbane

Brisbane, Nov 16 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday unveiled the statue of iconic freedon fighter Mahatma Gandhi in Brisbane Australia. Modi unveiled the statue even as supporters cheered him and shouted slogans at the Brisbane's Roma Street Parkland. Modi also offered flowers and paid his respect to Gandhi. Former honorary Indian consul in Brisbane Parsram Punj also participated in unveiling of the Gandhi statue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the city. PM Modi is in the Australian city for the 9th G20 summit. The Prime Minister has planned extra events in Brisbane during his four-day visit including the unveiling of the statue, talks with Australian Prime Minister, Tony Abbott, among other events. PM Modi's visit to Australia will hopefully strengthen ties with the near 300,000-strong Indian diaspora in the country, with a friendly tax regime for non-residents and options for dual citizenship on the wish list.
