Nabam Tuki condemns killing over land dispute in Assam

Itanagar, Feb 1 (ANI): A dispute over eviction from encroached land in Sonitpur district in Assam turned violent, killing ten people and inuring 12 others on January 29. Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Nabam Tuki, condemned the killings. The Chief Minister directed the chief secretary, the Director General of Police (DGP) and home commissioner to ensure every possible step to defuse the tension. Ten people were killed and 12 others injured after a dispute over eviction from encroached land in the area turned ugly. The area has been a bone of contention between the two states for decades. A five day fair from January 9 to January 13 was organized to mark the celebration of the harvest festival. The fair serves as a platform for people to know about their culture and traditional food. Fair organizer Binita Deka said that besides providing a market, people are given fresh food items through this fair, which are often difficult to access. Some of the traditional food items that were prepared include Pitha, Tilar Laru, Sunga Pitha, Tekeli Pitha, rice cakes and coconut sweets.
