Modi govt may announce Bharat Ratna for Vajpayee on his birthday, politicos react

New Delhi, Dec10 (ANI): The Narendra Modi government is thinking to confer the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award, on former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. According to reports, a formal announcement in this regard is expected to be put in public domain on December 25 when the nation will celebrate Vajpaye's leader's 90th birthday. As per the reports available, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, which was voted to power this May, may bestow its first Bharat Ratna on Vajpayee on January 26 next year. Reacting over this veteran BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi said that no one deserves Bharat Ratna more than Vajpayee. Mathura MP and former Bollywood actress, Hema Malini, also echoed similar views. Shiv Sena leader Anant Geete said that his party wants Bharat Ratna to be awarded to the former prime minister. SC pressurised to not make IPL spot fixing case probe report public: Aditya Verma

New Delhi, Dec 10 (ANI): Efforts are being made to not let the investigation report in the IPL spot fixing scam surface in public, said petitioner Aditya Verma in New Delhi. Verma said he is surprised at the pressure being created by BCCI to brush the matter under the carpet in interest of its former chief. Meanwhile, Supreme Court said that only an independent body can take up the case against Gurunath Meiyappan, the son-in-law of suspended BCCI president Narayanaswami Srinivasan, in the IPL scam. The court rejected all options given by BCCI and Srinivasan in the investigation. A report prepared by BB Mishra, key member of the panel, was submitted to the Supreme Court but the contents of his findings have not been made public. Meanwhile, Justice Mudgal said they have submitted their report to the court for the review and will act as per court's directions. Dec 10, 2014

Delhi court convicts four persons guilty in 1975 LN Mishra murder case

New Delhi, Dec 08 (ANI): A Delhi court on Monday pronounced four people guilty in 1975 LN Mishra murder case. Mishra was former railway minister and was murdered at a function in Bihar nearly 40 years ago. The court has fixed December 15 for hearing arguments on the quantum of punishment. All four have been taken in custody. Over 200 witnesses, including 161 prosecution witnesses and more than 40 defence witnesses, were examined in the case. The accused had earlier approached the Supreme Court for quashing of the trial against them in the murder case. The apex court had on August 17, 2012 dismissed their pleas on the ground that the proceedings could not be quashed merely because they had not been concluded in the last 37 years. Dec 8, 2014

New Delhi, Dec 08 (ANI): Politicos react as President of BJP unit in Uttar Pradesh, Laxmikant Bajpai claimed that Taj Mahal was a part of an ancient temple. Bajpai said that Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan "purchased a part of Tejo Mahalaya temple's land from Raja Jai Singh" and claimed that he had documents to prove it still exist. Union Minister Kalraj Mishra said that the monument will be as it is and would not change. Congress leader PL Punia said that BJP is trying to communalise the matter by making such claims. CPI (M) leader Sitaram Yechury said that he has never heard of such claims and is baseless. JD (U) leader Ali Anwar also condemned politicizing Taj Mahal by the BJP leader. Dec 8, 2014
