New Delhi, July 08 (ANI): Railway Minister Sadanand Gowda on Tuesday presented the Railway Budget for fiscal 2014-15 in the Lok Sabha. Gowda said that the government is targeting to become the largest freight carrier in the world. He said that Indian Railways is starved of funds despite 100 percent advance payment by customers. Now it___s time to take corrective actions, fare revision was one such step. He added that there is need to FDI except Railway operations, need to have Private Public Partnership to improve Railways. There is also need to explore new opportunities and to involve private funding in infrastructure development. He proposed WiFi systems on all A1 category stations, retiring rooms on all stations, bullet trains for which Mumbai-Ahmedabad sector has been identified. Keeping in mind the security of women, he said that 4,000 women RPF personnel will be deployed. Jul 8, 2014

UK ministers seek deals on first India visit since Modi_s election

Mumbai, July 8 (ANI): Two of Britain_s most senior government ministers- finance minister, George Osborne and Foreign Secretary William Hague, began a two-day visit to India hoping to open up opportunities in the defence and infrastructure sectors, the first such trip since Prime Minister Narendra Modi_s May election win. Osborne expressed UK_s interest in investing in infrastructure projects in India while addressing a news conference in western Mumbai city on Monday (July 07). London also wants British firms to help India develop new cities and districts along a 1,000 km (600 mile) corridor between Mumbai and southern Bangalore city. The arrival of Osborne and Hague, is the latest in a series of high-profile visits by foreign governments keen to build strong relations with Modi and to position themselves for a possible further opening up of India_s defence industry. Maharashtra doctors end strike after six days on CM's intervention

Mumbai, July 07 (ANI): Maharashtra Association of Gazetted Medical Officers (MAGMO) members, who were on a strike since July 1, called it off on Monday after the intervention of Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan. Chavan stated that most of the demands of MAGMO had been accepted earlier and the government is positive on some of the issues raised by them. MAGMO president Rajesh Gaikwad said that the organization is withdrawing the agitation on the assurance of the Chief Minister. The strike had paralyzed the healthcare situation in the state.
