Manipur, Dec 22 (ANI): After obtaining his master's degree in Social Work from Maharashtra, Aaron Pam Shang returned back to his village in Imphal West and established Sharon industries in 2010. He produces a wide range of products including phenyl, dish wash, cleaning detergents and herbal disinfectants and even supply raw material to local self-help groups to generate employment. The aim was to generate employment for the youth. Aaron markets his products in Manipur and has achieved a monthly turnover of Rs. 10 lakh. He has set-up an outlet in Nagampal and sells raw material to SHGs and others. At present, eight workers are employed in the factory. With the decline in insurgency, many educated youth from Manipur are setting up businesses in their villages and towns. It not only helps in generating revenue for the state but provides work to many unemployed youth. Dec 22, 2014

Maoists torch vehicles at mining belt in Jharkhand

Lohardaga, Dec 13 (ANI): The red rebels burnt trucks and heavy vehicles used for mining in Jharkhand, hindering the mining work in the area. The mining, dispatch and transportation of bauxite from the mines in the Maoist hit Kisko police station area of Lohardaga district came to a grinding halt after a group of rebels torched more than 20 vehicles. A truck owner, Pradip Sahu said there are around 300 labourers employed and their livelihood has been affected by the incident. He said Maoists have torched bauxite laded trucks before also. The Maoists from Bharatiya Communist Party (BCP) came late at night, attacked the labour working and torched the vehicles, obstructing the excavation work of bauxite. They burnt at least 20 trucks, two earth movers, a compressor machine and a tractor employed for the mining work. The rebels also left pamphlets behind in which they owned up for the incident. Jaipur, Dec 13 (ANI): As Vasundhara Raje government completes one years of governance in Rajasthan, the chief minister said that the state is working for all round development and are bringing in reforms to make women the heads of the family. Raje said that the year has been a disturbing one and the government could function only for 151 days out of total 365 days as holidays, model code of conduct, and elections have taken up rest of the time. One of the major achievements that Raje is looking up to is the Bhamashah reform which would roll out on 15th. Bhamashah scheme is a card that comes with a bank account number in the name of the female head of the family. Her biometrics details are recorded and only she can withdraw money. Among others, the chief minister also said that the government is working to bring the financial sector back on track and bring employment to youth so that Rajasthan is counted one amongst the developed states in India. Budgam, Dec 05 (ANI): Hundreds of youth, on Friday attended an army recruitment rally in Jammu and Kashmir. Around 9,000 youths participated in the rally, which was held in Budgam district. On the final day of the recruitment rally, written examination was conducted. After physical and medical tests, only 540 were allowed to give the written exam. A local youth, Mushtaq Ahmed, said employment was a major reason for them to attend the rally. A recruitment officer, Brigadier Adil Mehmood, said this recruitment rally gave employment opportunities in the valley, which was hit by devastating floods in September. Unemployment is a major issue in the conflict-torn region of Kashmir. During the election rallies in the poll-bound state, every political party has promised youth of employment. Dec 5, 2014

TMC now uses earthen pots to protest against amendment of MGNREGA outside Parliament

New Delhi, Nov 28 (ANI): Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs on Friday moved on from black umbrellas and shawls to demonstrating outside the parliament with earthen pots to protest outside against government's decision to amend the MGNREGA. Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) has brought work to millions of impoverished villagers. The party demanded that instead of amending the Act, the Centre should instead raise the wages paid under the popular scheme that guarantees a minimum 100 days of employment in a year to those living below poverty line in rural areas. Meanwhile, in an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, 28 prominent economists said they were alarmed to hear of moves to change the NREGA, which provides jobs for 50 million households.
