Birbhum gang-rape case: SC issues notice to WB government

Birbhum, Jan 24 (ANI): Taking suo moto cognizance of the Birbhum gang-rape case, the Supreme Court, describing the matter as "very disturbing", issued a notice to the West Bengal government on Friday. Chief Justice of India P Sathasivam also directed the Birbhum district magistrate to inquire into the matter and submit report in one week. Meanwhile, doctors treating the 20-year-old woman who was gang-raped by 13 men on the orders of a village court said that she is stable and recovering well even as state authorities assured cooperation. Meanwhile, chairman of the state level enquiry committee into the gang rape case, Ashok Sengupta, said that the reports have been sent for examination.

New Delhi, Jan 18 (ANI): Backing suspended IAS officer Ashok Khemka, BJP Spokesperson Capt. Abhimanyu on Saturday slammed Haryana Government for probing honest people such as Ashok Khemka. Further slamming the Congress he said that the party is double faced as on the one hand they talk of combating corruption and on the other they probe people fighting corruption. The Haryana Government has ordered CBI inquiry against Khemka for awarding a contract to a company in Gujarat worth eight crore rupees.

Haryana Government hounding Khemka: RK Singh

New Delhi, Jan 18 (ANI): Backing suspended IAS officer Ashok Khemka, former Union Home Secretary and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader RK Singh on Saturday said that the Haryana Government is trying to hound Khemka for carrying out his duties properly. Nursery Admissions: Delhi High Court reserves order

New Delhi, Jan 15 (ANI): Delhi High Court on Wednesday reserved order on petition of Action Committee of Unaided Recognized Private Schools for staying LG's order on nursery admission process. Lawyer Ashok Aggarwal on Wednesday said that the division bench has heard the issues of nursery schools and the court has reserved the orders which it can pronounce in two or three days. He further said that the verdict will be for the welfare of students.

Sachin Pilot named Rajasthan Congress Chief

New Delhi, Jan 13 (ANI): The Congress Party has appointed Union Minister for Corporate Affairs Sachin Pilot as the new president of the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee. The 36-year-old Minister for Corporate Affairs is a close associate of party Vice President Rahul Gandhi and is the son of late Union Minister Rajesh Pilot and Rama Pilot, who was also MP for a term. Pilot's appointment as PCC chief comes a month after the party's poor performance in the desert state. The Congress could secure just 21 out of the 200 Assembly seats in Rajasthan, leading to the exit of the Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government.

BSE closes points 6.03 down on Jan 3

New Delhi, Jan 3 (ANI): Trading at the Bombay Stock Exchange today closed 6.03 points down to stand at 20,882.30. At the National Stock Exchange the Nifty closed 0.45 points up to stand at 6,221.60. Financial Technologies and MCX were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 19.98% and 16.63% along with Ashok Leyland and Sobha Dev with an increase of 7.34% and 5.48% respectively, while the top losers of Group A include Tata Power and Mahindra and Mahindra with a decrease of 3.95% and 3.73% along with Torrent Power and IPCA Lab with a decrease of 3.21% and 2.92% at the close of the markets. The Auto sector is down 125.10 points at 12,045.28 while the banking sector is up 20.68 points at 12,794.79 and the realty sector is down 12.66 points at 1,442.24. The Indian currency is up 0.02% at Rs 62.25 per dollar.

Future plans, not resignation to be main focus of PM's speech: Ashok Tandon

New Delhi, Jan 03 (ANI): Ahead of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's press conference on Friday, media advisor to former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Ashok Tandon said that the main focus of the speech will be Singh's future plans relating to the course of events to take place. He said that unlike different speculations, there won't be any announcement on resignation by the PM as it's not the practice followed by any PM. He also said that these conversations have become rare in recent past and there are chances that opposition and media will try to corner him.

At the National Stock Exchange the Nifty closed 80.50 points down to stand at 6,215.40. Power grid corporation of India Ltd. and Ashok Leyland were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 2.47% and 2.33% along with Strides Arcolab Ltd. and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. with an increase of 1.57% and 1.16% respectively, while the top losers of Group A include JPINFRATEC and Century Tex with a decrease of 7.00% and 6.61% along with Adani Power and Suzlon Energy with a decrease of 6.45% and 6.43% at the close of the markets. The Auto sector is down 120.29 points at 12,154.28 while the banking sector is down 264.05 points at 12,746.34 and the realty sector is down 44.95 points at 1,429.84. The Indian currency is down 0.34% at Rs 62.11 per dollar.

Artist creates 72x42 ft sketch of Amitabh Bachchan

New Delhi, Jan 2 (ANI): An artist from Nashik city has made a 72x42 feet pencil sketch of nation's superstar Amitabh Bachchan, which will be presented to the actor soon. Talking to media, artist Ashok Nagpure said, "Amitabh Bachchan is a very important and popular personality in India. It took 72 hours for me to create the sketch." The sketch will be presented to Big B in Andheri next month, he said.
