Dozens gather outside Downing Street to call on DRC President Joseph Kabila to step down

Dozens of protesters gathered in London to call on Kabila to step down, after mass protests in the Democratic Republic of Congo turned deadly on 19 September. At least 17 people were killed after huge protests in the DRC capital Kinshasa. Kabila is due to step down from the presidency on 19 December, but it is widely thought he intends to remain in power past this deadline. Sep 20, 2016

Ramzan Kadyrov maintains Chechen presidency with 98% of vote

Russias Republic of Chechnya voted overwhelmingly in favour of regional president Ramzan Kadyrov. The Chechen leader won 98 percent of the vote in elections that did not meet international standards. Flying presidential nominees zoom over California beach

Flying motorised replicas of Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton fly through the air in Southern California on 15 September. The creator of the replicas, Otto Dieffenbach, says that they are not political but for enjoyement and promotion of his business. Hundreds of thousands of Catalans rally in support of independence from Spain

Hundreds of thousands took to the street across Catalonia on 11 September to support independence from Spain which local leaders want to deliver in 2017, despite legal challenges by the Spanish government.
