New rule for women boxers, doctor's certification in pregnancy test mandatory

New Delhi/ Mumbai, Nov 06 (ANI): A new rule has been imposed upon women boxers all over the world that they will have to carry the doctor's certification after undergoing a pregnancy test prior to participation in any boxing championship. The Vice President of Indian Orthopaedic Association, Tarlochan Singh said that this was already a mandatory practice apart from a certification from a doctor. He added that there was nothing discriminatory in the rule for India as the practice is applicable worldwide. Secretary of Sports Department, Ajit Saran said that the Indian sports federation cannot do anything about the rule as it has been applied by AIBA for all boxers. Secretary of Boxing India Jay Kowli said that there is no need to create an issue out of the rule because it is in the benefit of women boxers to prevent them of any injury if they are pregnant. Meanwhile, former athlete Sunita Godara said that in a sport like boxing pregnancy test being mandatory is a safe step and all sportspersons going through it is also a welcome step. Nov 6, 2014

Amid a star studded glitzy evening with former cricketers, family members and other dignitaries in the commercial capital Mumbai, he said the game lost its charm when Greg Chappell was the team coach. Tendulkar has penned in his book that just before the 2007 Cricket World Cup, Chappell had approached him to replace former cricketer Rahul Dravid as the team captain.
