Modi govt launches Bal Swachhta Mission to mark 125th birth anniversary of Nehru

Mumbai/ New Delhi, Nov 14 (ANI): The Modi government on Friday launched a nationwide mission called Bal Swachhta Mission to mark the 125th birth anniversary of the country's first Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru. The mission was launched by Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi under which a cleanliness drive would be organized in schools across the country between 14th and 19th of this month. A series of functions including lecture, debate and symposium on the occasion will also be organized across the country. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also participated in a cleanliness drive in Mumbai on Friday. The 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' encourages people to sweep, remove garbage, debris and unauthorized encroachments from roads, markets and residential places. Nov 14, 2014

French Navy Chief on six-day India visit to strengthen strategic ties

New Delhi, Nov 14 (ANI): The French Navy Chief Admiral Bernard Rogel arrived in India on a six-day visit during which he will tour naval facilities in Goa and Mumbai, besides seeing the Mazagon Dock which is building six Scorpene submarines with the help of a French firm. Admiral Bernard Rogel told mediapersons that he was happy to be in India, a strategic partner for years. The Admiral was received at the South Block lawns by Navy Chief Admiral RK Dhowan and accorded a ceremonial guard of honour. The first Scorpene submarine is expected to be launched in September 2015. Gas pipeline leak causes fire in Mumbai colony

Mumbai, Nov 13 (ANI): Residents of a colony in Mumbai woke up to a fire, early morning on Thursday. The fire, which broke out in the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) colony, one belonging to the state-run oil marketing company, was due to a leak in a gas pipeline. As per media reports, eight fire engines were rushed to the spot. No injuries have been reported so far. Fire safety regulations are lax, rarely implemented and not periodically reviewed in most places across India, which results in the breaking of major fire, resulting in loss of life and material.
