Assam, Sep 06 (ANI): Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar took stock of animal poaching in Kaziranga National Park in Assam and said that strict action is needed to save the wildlife. Javadekar arrived in Assam for a two-day visit where he observed the measures to conserve the wildlife, existing infrastructure besides discussing about the rapid shrinking forest cover in the northeast region. Later, while addressing a news conference, Javadekar said that the ministry will speed up CBI probe over the issue and that they had zero tolerance over the same. Assam Nagaland border calm after centre intervenes

Assam, Sept 06 (ANI): There have been no fresh incidents of violence and curfew has been relaxed in Golaghat district. Security continues to remain tight in the border area, with round the clock patrolling and army flag march. Meanwhile, the Chief Ministers of Assam and Nagaland have agreed to resolve the long pending border issues by setting up a joint mechanism, following a meeting with Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju in Guwahati. Both the state governments have assured that they will be working together to resolve the issue and restore peace in the disputed border area. The two sides have agreed to meet frequently and work jointly to defuse the tension and build confidence among the people living along the border. Enquiry committees have been constituted to look into the incident and 15 people have been apprehended in Nagaland. Assam and Nagaland have been claiming tracts of land along the state limits since the creation of Nagaland more than four decades ago. Union Home Ministry reviews the security situation at Assam-Nagaland Border

Guwahati, Sep 01 (ANI): Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, who was in Guwahati to attend a meeting with the Chief Ministers of 8 Northeastern states, reviewed the security situation on Assam-Nagaland Border. He held talks with Assam and Nagaland Chief Ministers on the escalating border violence. Meanwhile, a curfew has been imposed in Golaghat following the clashes between the police and protestors. The Army also held a flag march in the violence hit areas to bring the situation under control. In addition to three companies of CRPF, 1,000 paramilitary personnel have been deployed and security pickets have been set up in the affected villages. Assam, Aug 29 (ANI): Forest guards gunned down two poachers at Kaziranga National Park famed for its one-horned rhino, in Assam. Kaziranga Divisional Forest Officer SK Seal Sarmah said patrolling forest officials confronted a group of poachers, which led to exchange of fire. The thick-skinned, one-horned Indian rhinoceros is one of the five surviving rhino species in the world. The global conservation group WWF estimates there are less than 3,000 animals left in the world. They are found mostly in northeastern India, with a few hundred in neighbouring Nepal. The state's Lohit District is said to be the worst affected by the floods and landslides. Road communication, water and power supply, standing crops and houses are in a poor state. After making aerial surveillance of the affected regions, Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju said that lot of damage has been caused due floods. Meanwhile, Flood water from river Brahmaputra inundated major parts of a wildlife sanctuary, Kaziranga National Park (KNP) and rose to danger level in many areas of Kokrajhar district of Assam.
