Guwahati, Sep 22 (ANI): Incessant rains created havoc disrupting normal life of residents in Guwahati city of Assam. Residents said rains have paralyzed normal life and daily commuters are facing problem to reach to their destinations. The rains have been continuously pouring since Saturday flooding the main roads and various other parts of Guwahati. Due to heavy rains school and college have been closed. Al Qaeda is trying to enter Assam, says Tarun Gogoi

Guwahati, Sep 21 (ANI): Days after Al Qaeda threatened to carry out militant activities in India through a video, Chief Minister of Assam, Tarun Gogoi said intelligence sources revealed that the militant outfit was trying to enter the state and establish its base. The chief minister also said that Al Qaeda was trying to have some understandings with the Assamese separatist group United Liberation Force of Assam (ULFA) to gain access inside the state. Railway Minister plans connectivity to all north-eastern states

Guwahati, Sep 16 (ANI): Union Railway Minister, Sadananda Gowda, on Tuesday (September 16), expressed satisfaction as he reviewed Northeast Frontier Railway in northeastern Assam state. Gowda held review meetings with the departmental heads and other officials. He said the federal government aimed at completing 34 various ongoing projects of Indian Railways in the northeast over the next six years. Gowda said he has laid special emphasis on cleanliness, catering and safety in his budget. He said he wanted to give importance to the passengers of northeastern states. Grenade blast in Assam kills one, injures four

Assam, Sep 14 (ANI): A grenade blast by two unidentified men in Mangaldoi town of Assam killed one and severely injured four others. The injured were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Assam gets first women only university

Jorhat, Sep 12 (ANI): Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, inaugurated first women only university which will include under-graduate as well as post graduate courses. Addressing a function in Jorhat district, Gogoi said the university will help women in gaining expertise in different fields. Professor Doctor KM Bujarbaruah, who is the vice-chancellor of Assam Agricultural University (AAU), would mentor the women university. Till now 19 faculty members have been recruited and 55 students have taken admission. The classes started from September 1 in a temporary building. Assam: Two school girls found hanging from a tree in Karimganj

Karimganj, Sep 06 (ANI): In another shameful crime against women, two school girls were found dead in Karimganj district in Assam. Two Assam school girls, who had been missing from their homes since Wednesday, were found hanging from a tree on Thursday in the state's Karimganj district, close to the Bangladesh border. The police suspect that the girls were raped and then murdered. According to the police, the bodies have been recovered and sent for a post-mortem. Only after the post-mortem and forensic reports, will the police be able determine the cause of death and if the girls had been molested.
