Madhu Kinnar becomes first eunuch to win mayor poll

Chhattisgarh, Jan 5 (ANI): A eunuch, who earned a living by singing in Howrah-Mumbai trains scripted history by winning civic polls in Chhattisgarh, defeating nearest rival from ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Independent candidate Madhu won the mayor election of the Raigarh Municipal Corporation by 4,537 votes against BJP's Mahaveer Guruji. Madhu, 35, belonging to Dalit community, is the first transgender person to get elected as mayor in the state. After winning, Madhu said people had shown faith in her and she will put best efforts to accomplish their dreams. Hundreds of thousands of transgenders in India face discrimination, abuse and often forced into prostitution. Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh wished the winning candidates. Tamil group stage protest against Salman Khan for supporting Sri Lankan President

Mumbai, Jan 04 (ANI): A Tamil group on Sunday protested against Bollywood Actor Salman Khan outside his residence in Mumbai after the actor agreed to campaign for Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa for presidential polls in the country. The protesters of regional Naam Tamilar Katchi party shouted slogans against Khan and Rajapaksa. Khan, along with Sri Lankan-born Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez, recently visited Sri Lanka to campaign for Rajapaksa on the invitation by latter's son Namal Rajapaksa. A protester, Mani Gandam, accused Rajapaksa for killing over thousands of Tamilians in the Sri Lanka war and demanded Khan's apology to the public. Mumbai, Jan 02 (ANI): Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Friday while speaking on the Mumbai train services disruption said that corrective measures have been taken and normalcy is being restored in the region. He added that he had called a meeting with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, ministers and the concerned officers of the state to discuss the matter. Services of local trains in Mumbai were affected after an overhead cable wire fell down on the tracks.
