NC, PDP welcome Nawaz Sharifs visit to India for Modis oath taking ceremony

Srinagar, May 24 (ANI): The National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party have welcomed the decision of Pakistan Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif, to participate in the swearing-in ceremony of Narendra Modi as prime minister. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that he was glad that Sharif has accepted the invitation and hoped that this would mark a new beginning in Indo-Pak relations. Abdullah said the people of Jammu and Kashmir will be closely watching the developments. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president, Mehbooba Mufti too welcomed Sharif’s decision. May 24, 2014

Srinagar, April 30 (ANI): A shutdown was observed in Kashmir on Wednesday during the seventh phase of general elections in response to a call given by hard line Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani and his moderate counterpart Mirwaiz Umer Farooq. Both separatist leaders reportedly asked the people to keep away from polling booths and not to vote for any of the candidates contesting the elections. Business establishments, schools and transport are closed and roads in the Kashmir Valley wore a deserted look. Security is heavily beefed up in the province which is giving the residents jitters.
