DYFI protests 'victimisation' of Teesta Setalvad in Mumbai

Mumbai, Feb 16 (ANI): Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) staged protest in Mumbai for filing of misappropriation case against social activist Teesta Setalvad. In January 2014, police had registered a case against Setalvad, her husband Javed Anand and others for allegedly usurping rupees 15 million collected by them in form of donations to turn the 2002 riots hit colony into a riots museum. But the Supreme Court of India has stayed the arrest of Setalvad, her husband Javed Anand and others named in the case, till February 19. The slogan-shouting members of the DYFI claimed that Setalvad was being framed. The Gujarat High Court had rejected Setalvad's anticipatory bail plea in a criminal case of embezzlement of funds collected on behalf of 2002 riot victims of Gujarat. Feb 16, 2015

Fans in Jaipur burnt crackers on roadside and said that whether India wins the World Cup or not it has made a mark by winning against Pak. People in Mumbai held a march holding Indian flag and dancing on roads. Fans in capital New Delhi danced to 'dhol' beats and celebrated the match victory. Legal professionals strengthened freedom movement of India: PM Modi

Mumbai, Feb 15 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the legal professionals strengthened country's freedom movement, while addressing concluding Sesquicentennial Function of the Advocates Association of Western India (AAWI) in Mumbai city. Having a legacy of 150 years, said Modi, was of paramount importance and that people associated with AAWI could take pride in the fact that it produced lawyers like father of nation, Mahatma Gandhi and freedom fighter Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Modi also inaugurated a Permanent Judicial Museum at Bombay High Court set up as part of sesquicentennial celebrations. He also emphasised upon the need to strengthen people's faith in the institution of judiciary. Taking pride in his government doing away with 1700 existing laws, he said drafts for new laws should be available online to bar association. A fan in Vadodara said that beating Pakistan would be quite challenging. India won the 1983 and 2011 cricket World Cups, and fans are looking for another success this year. New Delhi, Feb 14 (ANI): Residents living near Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan's residence in India's western Mumbai city rejoiced after civic body demolished an illegal ramp outside his house, which was causing inconvenience to commuters. As per reports, civic body, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), workers and police reached Khan's residence, known as 'Mannat', in Bandra early morning to raze down the ramp.Residents celebrated with sweets as their numerous letters and requests to the BMC finally resulted in results.
