UN goes Bollywood style for its 'Free and Equal' campaign in India

Mumbai, May 1 (ANI): The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) launched its first ever Bollywood-style music video in Mumbai to promote its Free and Equal campaign for LGBT rights in India. The two-and-a-half minute video, called "The Welcome", stars actress and former Miss India Celina Jaitly who was last year nominated by the High Commissioner as a "UN equality champion" in recognition of her support for LGBT equality. Celina has made her musical debut in the video, singing a new version of the 1979 Bollywood classic, Uthe Sab Ke Kadam. The event even saw the presence of renowned Indian actor Imran Khan, transgender rights activist Laxmi Tripathi and UN representatives.The Free and Equal campaign aims to raise awareness of homophobic and transphobic violence and discrimination, and encourage greater respect for the rights of LGBT people. West Bengal/ New Delhi, April 9 (ANI): Politicians on Tuesday condemned the uproar between West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the Election Commission. According to reports, Banerjee challenged the Election Commission's order of transferring five superintendents on charges of being biased towards some political parties during a rally on Monday in Pandua town of West Bengal.
