Political candidates make frantic final push for votes

Lucknow/ Agra/ Amethi, April 15 (ANI): Trailing in the polls and expecting a fair amount of voter turnout, candidates of political parties contesting the Lok Sabha polls made a final pitch for votes in the race to Lower House. During an election campaign in Lucknow, BJP President Rajnath Singh rubbished media reports on Modi wave made by senior party leader Murli Manohar Joshi. Meanwhile, campaigning for Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) party candidate Amar Singh during a roadshow in Agra, actor-turned-politician and member of RLD Jaya Prada seconded Joshi’s remark. In the meantime AAP’s Amethi candidate Kumar Vishwas said he would give a tough fight to both main parties and expose their hidden agendas. The ruling Congress Party is fighting a tough election under the leadership of Party Vice-President Rahul Gandhi. The political drama has intensified in India as the mammoth election has kicked off on April 07 and would continue till May 12. Results of the elections are due on May 16. Apr 15, 2014

Assam/ Tripura/ Mamipur, April 05 (ANI): With barely a fortnight remaining for voting to begin for the general elections, elaborate security measures have been put in place all over the country. In the Northeast, the security forces are on high alert to prevent any attempt by insurgent outfits to disrupt the democratic process. The region has a past experience of poll boycotts by underground outfits, and incidents of threats and extortions against candidates. In Assam, security has been tightened in sensitive areas, as outfits like NDFB (S) are threatening candidates and demanding money. Militant hideout busted in J&K, cache of arms & ammunitions recovered

Baramulla, March 30 (ANI): Paramilitary forces on Sunday busted a militant’s hideout in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir ahead of upcoming general election. A huge cache of arms and ammunitions were recovered from the hideout during a joint operation by Rashtriya Rifles and Police in Tangmula forest of Baramulla district. Following this the security had been beefed up in the valley. The restive region has witnessed numerous militant attacks, insurgency, and infiltration attempts from across the border in the last two decades. Lucknow, March 28 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Police arrested militants in Lucknow and revealed that the arrested militants had plans to target and destroy crucial places in an armed attack. Inspector general of police of Uttar Pradesh, Amrender Singh Senger, revealed that the arrested militants were targeting to launch an attack using AK-47 and pistols in a crucial location in the state. The Inspector General added that the captured militants, Abdul Waleed and Salim were trained by Taliban in Afghanistan. Gajapati, March 21 (ANI): Following tip offs from rebels under police custody, the police in Gajapati district of Odisha destroyed a Maoist camp and seized a huge cache of arms, ammunitions and explosives. The police initiated a raid in Maoist hideouts in the forests of Salimagochha and Therubadi in Gajapati district after receiving primary information from three female Maoists under custody, Nikita, Anita and Susan who were arrested from a camp on February 28.
