Police barricade roads as RLD supporters converge for Mahapanchayat

New Delhi, Sep 23 (ANI): Police on Tuesday barricaded several roads in the Lutyens zone and shut down Race Course metro station to prevent protesters from reaching 12 Tughlaq Road bungalow for a mahapanchayat at the venue. The protesters who were supporters of RLD Chief Ajit Singh demanded the Tughlaq Road bungalow to be converted into a memorial of former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh. Security has been tightened near the bunglow to avoid any untoward incident. Police had also showcased a notice saying that the gathering was "illegal" and all those trying to participate in the 'Jat Mahapanchayt' will be detained. Later, police detained the protesters. Allahabad, Sep 22 (ANI): The supporters of Varun Gandhi on Monday pelted stones at the house of BJP MP Shyama Charan Gupta, who had criticised Women & Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi for pitching in for her son as the Uttar Pradesh chief minister. Gupta's statement has infuriated Varun's supporters who burnt his effigy and also pelted stones at his residence. The protesters also shouted slogans and tore the posters outside his residence in Allahabad. They also demanded an apology from Gupta for his statement. NCP leader Nawab Malik said that demanding for a memorial of a great leader as Chaudhary Charan Singh is not wrong as he did a lot for farmers in the country and future generations should be aware of it. SP leader Naresh Agarwal said that Ajit Singh has used wrong and violent means for getting his demand fulfilled. Meanwhile, CPI leader Atul Anjan slammed Ajit Singh for doing politics over the memorial issue and creating disturbance in the lives of innocent people.
