Thailand braced for major spike in Dengue cases

After a year which saw an explosion of Dengue fever infections, Thailand is bracing itself for an even worse 2016 with experts warning the number of infections may be on par with the 1987 mega-outbreak. Thailand recorded some 140,000 cases of infection last year, with 126 deaths, the highest number since the 170,000 cases of the 1987 crisis. Jan 28, 2016

Liberia declared Ebola-free but WHO says the job is not done

Liberia was declared free of the Ebola virus by global health experts on 14 January, a milestone that signalled an end to an epidemic in West Africa that has killed more than 11,300 people. But the World Health Organization (WHO) warned there could still be flare-ups of the disease in the region, which has suffered the worlds deadliest outbreak over the past two years, as survivors can carry the virus for many months and could pass it on.
