New Delhi, Aug 15 (ANI): Congress leader Shakeel Ahmed on Friday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's maiden Independence Day speech delivered from the ramparts of the Red Fort had nothing much or new to offer and lacked impact. Another Congress leader Salman Khurshid added that Modi’s speech was more of an election speech rather than a speech by a Prime Minister. Earlier the Prime Minister unfurled the flag from the ramparts of the Red Fort after inspecting the guard of honour. During his address, he touched upon issues related to poverty, women safety, female foeticide, the importance of the IT sector, the discontinuation of the planning commission, making India the global manufacturing hub of the future and the problem of farmer suicides. Politicians highlight issues Modi missed in his Independence Day speech

New Delhi, Aug 15 (ANI): Indian political leaders on Friday underlined misses in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's maiden Independence Day speech, while also appreciating his effort to touch upon basic issues the country is facing. Modi, in his speech on the occasion of 68th Independence Day on Friday (August 15), highlighted various topics from digitalization of India to poverty. He urged global investors to make India a manufacturing hub, and pitched for manufacturing in the electronic sector, also calling for foreign investment in manufacturing chemicals, automobiles, agro-business and others. However, Politicos felt he did not mention the core struggles of India, such as inflation and corruption. First budget session of NDA govt satisfactory: Venkaiah Naidu

New Delhi, Aug 15 (ANI): Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu hails the first budget session 2014 of Modi-led NDA government, which concluded on Thursday, as satisfactory. The budget session 2014 ran over the span of 27 days with 167 working hours in lower house and 142 working hours in the upper house of the parliament. SC issues notice to Centre and state on PIL seeking ban on cigarettes

New Delhi, Aug 14 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Thursday issued notice to the centre and the states on a PIL seeking a complete ban on the production of cigarettes and other tobacco products across the country. The SC bench headed by Chief Justice RM Lodha said it was for the lawmakers to decide. Lawyer of the petitioner filmmaker Sunil Rajpal said that the money spent on the treatment of smoking-related ailments comes to Rs 30,000 crore per annum which flies in the face of revenue earning arguments on not banning the tobacco industry. AAP begins door-to-door campaign to demand fresh elections in Delhi

New Delhi, Aug 13 (ANI): Members of Aam Aadmi party launched a door-to-door signature campaign on Wednesday asking people to sign a petition and join hands with the party in demand of re-elections in Delhi. Delhi has been under President_s rule since February when Chief of AAP, Arvind Kejriwal, resigned from the post of chief minister after his 49-day-old government failed to table its Lokpal Bill in the assembly. The assembly has been under suspended animation ever since and no party has staked a claim to form the government. The campaign was initiated from the Patparganj assembly constituency in Delhi by AAP leaders, Manish Sisodia and Ashutosh in national capital, New Delhi. However, Leader of AAP, Manish Sisodia said that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is not responding to the issues of price rise and corruption in Delhi. The signature campaign will be held for 15 days.
