New Delhi, Sep 13 (ANI): Punjab Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal on Saturday met External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to discuss various issues related to problems being faced by the Sikh community. Badal said that he put forth a few points related to the treatment meted out to Sikhs in various parts of the world, especially in the US, where many Sikhs were attacked. U-turn: NDA backs UPA's choice in Lokpal panel

New Delhi, Sep 13 (ANI): The government, on Saturday, defended Lokpal selection panel in the Supreme court which the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had opposed when it was in opposition. The BJP-led NDA government filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court, defending the appointment of senior advocate PP Rao as the eminent jurist to the Lokapl panel. Earlier, the BJP had opposed Rao's nomination to the panel, calling him loyalist of Congress party. BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said it was not a U-turn because affidavit was related to the process and not to a person. The opposition accused the BJP of following the Congress' policies on a host of issues, which it had traced during the parliament polls. Meanwhile, JD (U) said it exposed BJP's double standards. New Delhi, Sep 13 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather on Saturday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed over steps to overcome the impact of flood situation in the state. Rather said that he requested the prime minister to declare it as a national disaster and give relaxation to the policies for fast relief of people. He said that he has asked PM to look at the issues like housing, employment, essential products and restoration of public buildings among many others to overcome the loss to the state. Kabul, Sept 11 (ANI): Afghanistan will always remain India's first strategic partner said Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj, who is visiting Kabul to enhance bilateral ties and help its northwestern neighbour deal with key challenges of security and stability. Swaraj, who is on her maiden visit to Afghanistan, arrived in Kabul on Wednesday and inaugurated the new Indian embassy building. She also held talks with Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai on crucial bilateral and regional issues, as well as on defence and security assistance from India. Swaraj also met her Afghan counterpart Zarar Ahmad Osmani. While addressing a gathering of delegates, Swaraj said India has always wished for a prosperous Afghanistan. She also remembered the Afghan and Indian personnel and officials who laid down their lives safeguarding India's diplomatic premises and development projects in Afghanistan. Swaraj held talks with Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai on crucial bilateral and regional issues, as well as on defence and security assistance from India. Swaraj also met her Afghanistani counterpart Zarar Ahmad Osmani. She is also expected to hold meeting with presidential candidates in Kabul and inaugurate the new Indian embassy.
