New Delhi, Dec 11 (ANI): Opposition leaders slammed BJP on Thursday after Bharatiya Janata Party MP Yogi Adityanath claimed that Taj Mahal was built on a Shiv temple. Congress leader Rashid Alvi said that one who has no knowledge about history should not give such a statement. NCP leader Majid Memon said that such issues should not be given importance. New Delhi, Dec 11 (ANI):Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in New Delhi to boost ties that would encompass issues from defence to nuclear power and even diamonds. Putin's India visit will prepare the way for two Siberian oil deals and chart a route for a first pipeline between the two countries.On Putin's arrival, Modi tweeted:"Delighted to welcome President Putin to India! Looking forward to a productive visit that will take India-Russia ties to newer heights". On Thursday Putin and Modi will hold delegation-level talks and also inaugurate World Diamond Conference.Though both Modi and Putin have met earlier but structured bilateral talks have not been held so far. Telangana bans Uber cab services after Delhi rape case

Hyderabad, Dec 10 (ANI): Telangana on Wednesday banned the US-based Uber cab services, days after Delhi rape case by a driver employed with the company. The move came after India ordered state governments to halt the operations of all unregistered, web-based taxi companies on Tuesday. In state capital Hyderabad, police officials and the transport authority are stopping taxis and checking them. The move in India was followed by separate government and court actions against Uber in Thailand, Spain and the United States on a variety of issues. A representative for Uber said the company had not been officially notified of any ban in New Delhi and would issue a statement. It was still possible to hail an Uber taxi in Delhi using the company's smartphone application. Dec 10, 2014

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa visits Tirumala Venkateswara Temple in AP

Tirupati, Dec 10 (ANI): Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa in the wee hours on Wednesday offered prayers at Tirumala Venkateswara Temple with his family in the revered Hindu temple town of Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh amid tight security. Rajapaksa was in the temple for about an hour, participating in the ‘Suprabhatam' recitation ritual conducted by a group of priests inside the temple. Police had made elaborate security arrangements to prevent any untoward incident, as some of the political parties in neighbouring Tamil Nadu state are hostile to the leader due to ethnic Tamil issues in the island nation. Reportedly, Rajapaksa is visiting the temple on the advice of his astrologers which would help him win the Presidential poll in Sri Lanka scheduled for January 08, 2015. Thereafter, the Sri Lankan president left for airport ending his visit to India. Meanwhile, MDMK supporters staged protest and shouted slogans in Tirupati against Rajapaksa’s visit. Dec 10, 2014
