Kashmir reels under cold weather conditions

Srinagar, Nov 20 (ANI): People of Jammu and Kashmir grappled with dense fog and harsh weather conditions as temperatures dipped in the region. The Dal Lake, which is one of the major tourist attractions in Srinagar, was seen deserted without visitors. Temperatures dipped as low as -1 degree Centigrade on Thursday morning (November 20). Maximum temperatures for the day were assumed to reach 15 degree Centigrade. A dense fog had enveloped roads of Srinagar, leading to poor visibility. The intense cold has forced residents to stay in warm confines of their homes but schoolchildren and office-goers struggle to go out. Nov 20, 2014

Parapet walls around Dal Lake in Kashmir to be restored

Srinagar, Nov 12 (ANI): Authorities beefed up restoration work of the parapet walls surrounding the scenic Dal Lake that were damaged after the worst flood in decades devastated Jammu and Kashmir. An engineer working on restoration, Nayeem Ahmad, said the damaged walls need to be repaired soon as the tourists feel unsafe to walk besides the lake. The tourism industry has again picked up after the disaster as tourists from across the world have started visiting the valley. The damaged parapet walls of the Dal Lake are making it difficult for tourists to enjoy the beauty as the walls made for sitting purpose can break anytime. The Dal Lake, often referred to as 'Srinagar jewel', is visited by millions of tourists every year and brings in huge profits for the boats rowers, famed houseboats and hotels around the lake.
