Militancy down by 70 % in Kashmir: Omar

Jammu, Feb 23 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah said that militancy in the state had come down by 70 percent in the last five years. The Kashmir region has witnessed numerous militant attacks, insurgency and infiltration attempts from across the border in the last two decades. The chief minister said he would work for the revocation of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) that gives security forces sweeping powers to search, arrest or shoot people. Feb 23, 2014

India, Bangladesh demarcate disputed border

Agartala, Feb 21 (ANI): India, Bangladesh officials demarcated the disputed border in Tripura after four days of meticulous work and expressed satisfaction. The teams from both the countries visited the bordering areas of Kashba, Kaiyardepha and Akhaura and located 250 new subsidiary border pillars, which have been newly constructed. The demarcation would help guards in manning the border, expedite various construction activities such as fencing and lighting and making of water pump houses. Director General of Bangladesh Department of Land Record and Survey (DLRS), Mohammed Abdul Mannan, said that his team had carried out the mandate given by two governments.
