India- Pakistan cross border truck drivers divided over 24x7 trade on security issues

Amritsar, Feb 27 (ANI): Both Indian and Pakistani cross border truck drivers bring divided opinion over the proposed 24x7 trade across India-Pakistan border at Attari- Wagah border due to security concerns. A proposal over resumption of 24-hour trade across Attari-Wagah border near Amritsar in Punjab was approved by the governments of both the neighbouring countries, in a bid to boost business. An Indian truck driver Balwinder Singh said he was worried about his safety as they manoeuvre through unsafe territories and the government did not ensure any security measures for them. On the contrary, a Pakistani truck driver Mubshar Abbas rejoiced over the move saying it would provide him with better opportunities to generate income. Feb 27, 2014

Govt committed to provide best facilities to forces: Manmohan Singh

New Delhi, Feb 26 (ANI): Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, on Wednesday called for focused attention on strengthening infrastructure and building capacity for the paramilitary forces, as he lauded the personnel for maintaining law and order and controlling internal disturbances and insurgencies across the nation. Singh said this as he laid the foundation stone of Central Armed Police Forces Institute of Medical Sciences (CAPFIMS) in New Delhi. The Institute will not only have a multi-speciality hospital but also a medical college, two separate institutes of nursing and paramedical, a residential campus for students and doctors, an air ambulance unit and a 24x7 mobile hospital unit for the troops of central forces. Singh also said that the paramilitary forces deployed in some of the most difficult places have been successful in preventing trans-border crimes. Feb 26, 2014
