South Koreans protest against President Park Geun-hye in Seoul

Hundreds of thousands of Koreans attended a protest against President Park Geun-hye in Seoul. The organisers, the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, claimed 550,000 people were there, although police estimated the protesters numbers at 250,000. President Park has been accused of allowing a close friend, Choi Soon-Sil, to influence state affairs. The friend is currently under arrest and the subject of an official investigation. Nov 12, 2016

Prince Harry led the nation in a poignant two minutes silence to commemorate those who lost their lives in past and more recent conflicts at the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas, Staffordshire, on 11 November. Harry took a moment to view the names of fallen soldiers inscribed onto the Armed Forces Memorial after laying down a wreath. Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte showed a surprisingly softer side during a state visit to Malaysia. During a dinner Malaysian with Prime Minister Najib Razak, Duterte was upstanding for a spot of karaoke.Duterte performed the 1988 classic Wind Beneath My Wings by Bette Midler while Najib sang Cliff Richards’ The Young Ones. The heads of state also sang a duet together: Sha-La-La-La-La by 1970s Danish rock band The Walkers.Previous to their musical interlude, Duterte and Najib had been discussing actions against pirates in their territorial waters. Leaders from around the world have congratulated Republican Donald Trump on becoming the president-elect for the United States of America, after he beat Hillary Clinton on 9 November. Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke of hoping to work on the US-Russia relationship that has been especially strained of late, whilst European leaders Angela Merkel, Francios Hollande and Theresa May hoped to continue their strong relationships with America.
