Devout Hindus celebrate Mahashivratri across India with fervour

Uttar Pradesh/ Madhya Pradesh, Feb 27 (ANI): Devout Hindus revelled in the festive spirit as thousands of them thronged temples and congregated at the banks of holy rivers across India on Thursday to celebrate festival of Mahashivratri, also known as Lord Shiva's wedding anniversary, with religious fervour. The pilgrims and devout Hindus chanted holy words as they took holy bathe in the sacred Triveni Sangam, in Allahabad city of Uttar Pradesh. The magnificently decorated temples in the holy town of Ayodhya also witnessed crowd of devotees. Delhi court awards death penalty to three convicts in Haryana gangrape case

New Delhi, Feb 20 (ANI): A fast-track court in Delhi ordered death penalty to the three accused in a case of abduction, rape and gruesome murder of a 19-yr-old girl in 2012 in Haryana. The verdict was passed by Additional Sessions Judge, Virender Bhatt. Social worker, Anita Gupta, who was helping the family in fighting the case said that they were pleased with the judgment. The victim’s relatives celebrated outside the court premises after the verdict was delivered by the court. The father of the victim thanked the people for their support. Feb 20, 2014

Adventurists camp in Mao infested Purulia

Purulia, Feb 15 (ANI): Enthusiastic adventurists participated in the first Orienteering camp held in the Mao infested Ayodhya hill area of Matha Forest Range in Purulia of West Bengal. The camp has been organized by West Bengal Mountaineering & Adventure Sports Foundation, under the Youth Services Department of West Bengal government and the participants use their navigation skills with the help of a map and a compass to race on foot. Former Joint Director of National Atlas and Thematic Mapping Organisation (NATMO) and Coordinator of the orienteering camp, Tridib Basu, shared the experience of organizing the camp. Academy award-winning star Maximilian Schell dies at 83

New Delhi, Feb 2 (ANI): Maximilian Schell, who had won an Oscar for his role in ' Judgment at Nuremberg' in 1961, has passed away "following a sudden and serious illness". He was 83. The Austrian-born actor's agent said that he died overnight at a hospital in Innsbruck. Schell, who was a fugitive from Adolf Hitler, had received two Academy Award nominations for 'The Man in the Glass Booth' and 'Julia'. He had also won a Golden Globe for 'The Pedestrian'. Feb 2, 2014

Chennai/ New Delhi, Jan 24 (ANI): Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's assassin, S Nalini approached Madras High Court in Tamil Nadu and sought 30 days parole to visit her ailing father. Nalini is confined in a special prison for women at Vellore Tamil Nadu for the past 22 years. Nalini had accompanied a suicide bomber squad to the election rally in Sriperumbudur where Rajiv Gandhi was killed on May 21, 1991. Babulal Gaur says less crime when women are 'fully-clothed', draws criticism

Bhopla/ Mumbai, Jan 11 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Babulal Gaur yet again stirred up controversy after he said that crime against women is less in Chennai as they are "fully-clothed." It is not the first time when Gaur has made such remarks. Gaur was in limelight in 2013 also for condemning Western culture. Gaur attributed the low crime rate in South India to the full clothes worn by women and said that people in south are more religious because of which they have good relations between them and thereby the city witnesses less crime. During the inauguration of the Ayodhya Nagar Police Station on Thursday, he made this remark which brought criticism.
