Centrally sponsored health schemes benefit people in remote areas of Northeast

Assam, Jan 04 (ANI): Thengalbari village in Titabor Sub-division of Jorhat is one of those interior areas of Assam which lacks proper healthcare facilities. But, the Mobile Medical Units under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) are reaching out to such remote villages. They organize free medical camps for the needy. Hundreds of people of different age groups queued up at the venue to avail a variety of facilities including general medical examination, ECG, Vision test and ear, Nose and throat check up. Free medicines were also given out to the people. In Tripura also, the security forces are taking a step forward to provide health facilities in remote areas. Over 100 people reconverted to Sikhism in Amritsar

Amritsar/ New Delhi, Dec 31 (ANI): Around 120 people from 15 families were re-converted to Sikhism from Christianity in a 'ghar wapsi' (homecoming) event in Amritsar city of Punjab. Lately, there have been a lot of cases of religious conversions - mainly to Hinduism - in the country and politicians have slammed ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for not taking any action against it. The families stated they originally belonged to Mazhabi Sikh community and were lured into Christianity. Reportedly, the conversion function was organised by Dharma Jagran Manch, a body associated with Hindu nationalist organisation Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS), after people expressed desire to return to Sikh faith. Public sector units collaborate to revive shut fertiliser units

New Delhi, Dec 24 (ANI): Four major Public Sector Units (PSUs) signed joint venture agreements on Wednesday in an effort to increase urea output and revive closed fertilizer units. The four PSUs - GAIL (Gas Authority of India Limited), Coal India Limited (CIL), Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers (RCF) and Fertilizer Corporation of India (FCIL) - signed agreements in New Delhi to set up an Integrated Coal Gasification cum Fertilizer and Ammonium Nitrate complex at Talcher in Odisha. Coal Minister Piyush Goyal, who was also present for agreement singing, said that the deadline for starting the units was March 31, 2019. Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister, Ananth Kumar, hoped that the country would soon start exporting urea. India's fertiliser requirement is 32 million tonnes annually whereas the production is 22 million tonnes. Dec 24, 2014

Assam, Dec 24 (ANI): Suspected tribal militants killed at least 40 people, including women and children, in Sonitpur and Kokrajhar districts of Assam. Police suspect militants of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) were behind four attacks that took place on Tuesday within the space of an hour. Formed in 1998, NDFB signed a ceasefire with the government in May 2005, but some of its factions continue to indulge in militancy. Villagers who fled the carnage told police that the rebels came on foot, armed with assault rifles and wearing military uniforms. They forced open the doors of their thatched huts and opened fire. And, to hone to skills of budding players in the state, the Assam Rifles took a step forward to organize an archery competition. Seventy two archers from 16 teams participated in the individual and team events at Assam Rifles Archery Range in Imphal. The Assam Rifles Archery team won the title. Similarly, efforts are high on to improve the standard of football in schools. Recently, a 5-day long event was held in Imphal to sharpen the skills of under-17 girls as they participated in the 60th National School Games. Held under the aegis of Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of Manipur, 20 teams from various states participated in the championship at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium.
