Railway passenger fare hike by 14.2%, Politicos react

New Delhi, June 20 (ANI): Railway Ministry on Friday hiked passenger fare by 14.2% ahead of the actual railway budget of the new government. Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda said that the previous government's orders about fare hike were passed by him and he had to implement the orders to meet all expenses. Political leaders condemned the highest fare hike in railways up till now. RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav said that BJP government has sarcastically shown its good days to people. CPI Gurudas Dasgupta said that hike in railway fare will bring a disaster in coming days. TMC leader Derek O'Brien said that the new government is playing the same dirty tricks of the previous government and burdening the common man. Railway Minister holds pre budget meeting to discuss fare hike and FDI

New Delhi, June 19 (ANI): Railway Minister Sadanand Gowda held a meeting with officials in New Delhi to discuss about fare hike and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in railways. Gowda addressed all General Managers (GM), Divisional Railway Managers (DRM) and other senior officials on Thursday to finalise the way forward. He said that Indian railways was short of resources and that railways is looking for funds mobilisation through Foreign Direct Invetsment.
