Police in Amritsar arrest smugglers, recover drugs and cash

Amritsar, April 27 (ANI): Police in Punjab achieved a major success in its drive against cross-border smuggling of narcotics. Amritsar branch of State Special Operation Cell, a unit of Counter Intelligence wing of Punjab Police, arrested three smugglers along with possession of drugs. The smugglers were identified as Jagjit Singh, Davinder Singh, Kuldip Singh and Harbinder Singh. Further investigation revealed that the smugglers have been indulging in cross-border smuggling and had recently procured two consignments of heroin from Pakistan, which they had disposed off as per the directions from Pakistani smugglers. It was further revealed that the seized consignment was the third in past one month and the recovered pistol was part of the same. Apr 27, 2014

Shopian, April 26 (ANI): An Army Major and two jawans have been killed along with two terrorists in a gun battle between security forces and militants which intensified in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. Acting on a tip-off on militant hideout, security forces launched a search operation to flush them out, triggering the gunfight. The restive region has witnessed numerous militant attacks, insurgency, and infiltration attempts from across the border in the last two decades. The Sacred Heart Cathedral in New Delhi witnessed huge crowd, as special prayer services were held and devotees performed the church rituals. In Kochi city in India's southern Kerala state, processions were also taken out at some places and pastor priests accompanied by other clergy members conducted the mass prayers. According to Christian theology, Good Friday, also called Holy Friday, Great Friday or Black Friday is a religious event observed primarily by Christians commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus and his death at Golgotha hill. Devotees in Thiruvananthapuram city of Kerala attended the church rituals and later took out procession holding cross around the church. Amritsar, April 25 (ANI): Security personnel of Border Security Force (BSF) seized heroin worth rupees 500 million, which was being smuggled along India-Pakistan border in Amritsar city of Punjab. The official added the smugglers took advantage of darkness and managed to escape. Drugs trade has been thriving in Punjab, which shares its international border with Pakistan.
