Centre forms committee to look into Bodoland demand

Bodoland, Mar 17 (ANI): Former home secretary G K Pillai has been appointed by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to study and examine the demand for a separate state of Bodoland. GK Pillai will soon visit Kokrajhar to consult all sections of the society on the viability of Bodoland. The committee will submit its report to the Ministry within 9 months. A 12 member Bodo delegation, comprising representatives from the ABSU, People’s Joint Action Committee for Bodoland Movement, United Democratic People’s Front and the Bodoland People’s Progressive front, was in New Delhi recently. Manipur, Mar 14 (ANI): A two-month-long “Jacquard Weaving Training to Male Weavers” is being held at the Weavers’ Service Centre at Porampat in Imphal east district. The skill development programme has been organized by the Development Commissioner for Handlooms and the Ministry of Textiles in collaboration with the Commerce and Industries department, Government of Manipur. In total 137 male weavers from various districts of the state are taking part in it. The weaving centre was inaugurated in February this year with an aim to encourage the men folk of the state to take up such self employment ventures and contribute to the state’s economy. Villagers avail the benefit of skill development programme in Manipur

Imphal, March 13 (ANI): Situated in the Imphal East District, some 18 km away from Imphal, the Andro Village is widely known for its specialization in the art of making pots. Recently, a six-month-long training programme on integrated design and technical development in pottery and terracotta crafts was organized at the Common Facility Centre in Andro Kharam Leikai. The programme aimed at enhancing the skills of crafts persons in order to enable them to earn a decent livelihood, which would thereby boost the state’s economy. The training was conducted under the aegis of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles in collaboration with the Social Development Organisation, Kongba Nandeibam Leikai.
