Union Home Ministry reviews the progress of Bezbaruah committee for Northeast people

New Delhi, June 10 (ANI): The newly appointed Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju reviewed the work of 6-member committee led by MP Bezbaruah and has sought an interim report by July this year. The committee comprising of retired IAS officers, student leaders and representatives from the northeastern states is looking into the concerns of the northeastern people residing across the country. The committee is interacting with students, professionals and various persons from Northeastern states living in metro cities across the country and seek their suggestions. Bezbaruah revealed that the committee has been looking into the possibility of enacting new laws to deal with racial discrimination. Imphal, June 8 (ANI): Fifty four-year-old Thangjam Joykumar ventured into agro Industries by setting up a small food processing unit in Imphal East three years ago. He manufactures different foods and beverage items under the brand name 'Likla', which literally means 'dew drops'. The unit is a source of employment for local youth, as it employs around 200 local youth. Joykumar has received many awards, including the prestigious Governor's Trophy for best entrepreneur in 2011. Tripura, June 07 (ANI): A group of unemployed youth launched Bamboo Enterprises United (BENU), a handicraft workshop and community facility centre, in Katlamara village in 2004. The aim was to be self employed by utilising the locally available Kanakaich variety of bamboo. The village was once a hotbed for militants and lacked proper employment and business opportunities for the youth. These young entrepreneurs provided training to rural artisans to create various bamboo items, including furniture More than 100 people are currently engaged with the project and supply bamboo products in the country and abroad.
