Goa/ Karnataka/ Gujarat, Jan 1 (ANI): After an eventful year, India welcomed 2014 with celebrations, music and food festivals. Thousands of foreign tourists thronged India's party capital, Goa, which boasts colonial Portuguese charm, sun-kissed beaches and great seafood. The New Year parties arranged in various hotels and clubs, besides on the off-shore casinos received overwhelming response from the tourists visiting the state. A resident of Bangalore, Anjali, wished for a peaceful 2014. In Ahmedabad, people welcomed the New Year with cultural programs and traditional dance performances. India hopes for early resolution of legal tussle of GMR group with Maldivian government

New Delhi, Jan 1 (ANI): The Ministry of External Affairs has hoped for a resolution of issues between infrastructure firm, GMR and Maldivian government, with both at loggerheads over the Male airport issue. The new President of Maldives Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom would visit India from January 01 to 04. President Gayoom would be accompanied by a high level delegation. GMR, a subsidiary of Bangalore-based GMR Infrastructure limited has been given seven days to leave the Indian Ocean island chain. In 2012, Maldives cancelled its biggest foreign investment project, a $511 million deal with Indian firm GMR Group to develop its international airport, raising questions over the future of foreign investment in the islands renowned for luxury resorts. MEA spokesperson, Syed Akbaruddin said that it was important for both GMR and the government of Maldives to resolve their issues. Dancers perform Odissi dance at International Odissi Dance Festival

Bhubneshwar, Dec 29 (ANI): Indian dancers as well as dancers of foreign origin performed the classical Odissi dance with finesse at the International Odissi Dance festival on Sunday in Bhubneshwar. Some of the eminent artists from across the country participated in the festival. An American dancer of Indian origin Sibani Das was excited about giving her first performance on an Indian platform and shared how significant the dance form is in the U.S. People thronged in large numbers to attend the mesmerizing performances. New Delhi, Dec 28 (ANI): India’s Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid, said that the union government would extend all possible help to arrested journalist in Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan police has arrested a freelance Indian journalist, Prabhakaran, for clicking pictures of sensitive installations on a tourist visa. He is being questioned in Colombo. The Indian envoy has been informed of the developments. Sri Lankan police revealed that an Indian national was arrested on charges of filming a military installation in Kilinochchi, stronghold of former Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). Karnataka CM says legislators foreign tour not his decision

Bangalore, Dec 26 (ANI): After two foreign junket trips by a bunch of MLAs in Karnataka kicked up a storm and invited sharp criticism, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday said that foreign 'study tour' planned for the legislators was not his decision. Karnataka MLAs' foreign junket: Nothing wrong, MLAs of drought hit area not coming

Bangalore, Dec 26 (ANI): As a planned tour of MLAs from Karnataka amidst drought in parts of the state has come under criticism from politicos, Karnataka Congress MLA Malikayya Guttedar said that there is nothing wrong wit the same and that the MLAs from drought hit areas are not accompanying them in the 'study tour'. The estimated reports suggest that at least 15 lakh rupees will be invested in each MLA, which Guttedar refuted and said that not more than 7 lakh are getting invested per person.
