"Dog-Whistle Politics" will see Fitz firing Abby for putting Olivia in the direct line of fire of the media, after he fails to understand that she did it to protect his reputation.
A promo for the upcoming episode shows Fitz throwing down a newspaper onto Elizabeth North's desk questioning her about the new item, which reads: "Grant's Mistress Confirms Affair".
It appears that the media is having a field day with Olivia and Fitz's affair and they have done reports on how many men she has slept with and when she lost her virginity. Understandably, Fitz is furious, and Elizabeth North fails to divert his attention to other pressing matters. The President compares the media's scrutiny to "Liv being blindfolded on her knees in front of the firing squad, while we're doing nothing."
As for how Olivia is dealing with the media circus, Shonda Rhimes revealed to Entertainment Weekly in an earlier interview that "Olivia finds that every single thing about her life has changed in unexpected ways."
While Fitz is busy sorting out his personal issues, Jake is forced to seek Papa Pope's help to fix an international crisis.
The official synopsis of the episode reads:
Eager to get answers, Jake unexpectedly crosses paths with someone he thought he'd never see again. Meanwhile, Huck and Quinn recruit a familiar face to help smooth over the media storm surrounding Olivia, and Fitz quickly finds out the true cost of mercy when he discovers not everyone fully supports his actions.
"Scandal" is aired Thursdays on ABC.
