What would seem to be a perfectly fine video to millenials in any part of the world may not be perceived in the same way in Saudi Arabia. The latest case in point is a viral video which shows an Egyptian man having breakfast with a female colleague in his office.
Little did the man know that the video would land up him in a big trouble as authorities in Saudi Arabia has arrested the man for posting the video which showed him having a normal breakfast with his female colleague.
Yes, you read that right. An Egyptian man working for a multinational company in Jeddah was arrested for appearing in the video after he decided to upload the video on social media. The video clip took no time to go viral in Saudi Arabia and some users even expressed their outrage at the video.
The man has been arrested under charges of 'violation of the women working conditions'. The Saudi Ministry of Labour and Social Development also shared the news of his arrest on Twitter and published a statement saying that the Ministry had contacted the owner of the company where the Egyptian man and his colleague worked. The ministry has asked the company to investigate the "violation of the women working conditions."

An arabic hashtag which means 'Egyptian man having breakfast with Saudi woman' trended in Saudi Arabia and parts of the Middle East with as many as 55,000 people tweeting about it. Most of the twitter users felt that what sparked the controversy was the fact that the woman was seeing feeding lunch to the man with her own hands in a part of the video.
At a time when the country is making progress towards improving the condition of the women and encouraging them to join the workforce, the arrest of the man for something so trivial has come as a setback to the citizens of Saudi Arabia.
