The Telugu version of director AR Murugadoss' Sarkar starring Tamil superstar Vijay has made decent collections at the box office in 20 days and has attained hit status in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana (AP/TG).

Actor Vijay and director AR Murugadoss boast huge fanbases in the Telugu states and the promos of Sarkar had created a lot of curiosity among the viewers in these areas. The hype surrounding the film made its theatrical rights sell for record prices and distributors made grand arrangements to cash in on the craze.

The distributors released both its Telugu and Tamil version in over 450 screens across these states on November 5. Having decent advance booking, the Vijay starrer opened to fantastic response and went to make good business on the following days. Sarkar collected Rs 12.50 crore gross at the AP/TG box office in its six-day-extended first weekend.

The AR Murugadoss-directed political drama witnessed a drop on the weekdays. Sarkar clashed with much-hyped movies like Amar Akbar Anthony starring Ravi Teja and Taxiwala starring Vijay Devarakonda in the later weeks, but it managed to make a good collection at the ticket counters.

As per the reports, Sarkar has collected approximately Rs 18 crore gross at the AP/TG box office in 20 days. The distributors had reportedly spent Rs 7 crore on its theatrical rights for the Telugu states and the movie has earned Rs 8.50 crore for them so far. It has got them decent profit share.

However, Shankar's most-awaited movie 2.0 starring Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar is scheduled to hit the screens on November 29. The movie will not only become the first choice for viewers but also force the distributors to vacate Sarkar from most of the theatres in these states. Its collection is likely to be completely stalled in the coming week.
